Japanese Proficiency

At the Graduate School, almost all classes for International Students and Foreign Research Students are conducted in Japanese, so in addition to general "General Purpose Japanese Proficiency", "Academic Japanese Proficiency" necessary for studying in Graduate School, and "Japanese Proficiency by research area" specialized to your field of study are also required.
Some Graduate Schools set the requirement of Japanese Proficiency as Eligibility for applicants.Please confirm the following Application Guidelines.

Concurrent Admission Application is possible for both "International Student Entrance Examination (Master's degree)" and "Foreign Research Student Selection".

Support

Support for Obtaining Visa

Kansai University Graduate Schools supports students residing abroad who wish to travel to Japan to take entrance examinations or enroll in a school, by assisting them with the necessary procedures to obtain a visa.

  • Support for those coming to Japan at the time of the examination When traveling to Japan to take the examination, any type of visa is acceptable. Please complete the travel procedures on your own first.
    For those who are not issued a short-stay visa to travel to Japan, we will issue the necessary documents at the request of the candidate.

    Issuance of "Examination Permit"

    "Exam Permit" will be issued for the purpose of obtaining a short-stay visa. Enrolled students who have been notified by the start date of online application for each date and who have paid the application fee (screening fee) and submitted the application documents will receive a "Letter of Acceptance".

    Issuance of necessary documents for "Temporary Business, etc". visa

    If the "Examination Permit" is not sufficient to obtain a Temporary Visitor's Permit, the necessary documents to obtain a "Temporary Business or Other Visa" will be issued.
    For applicants who have been contacted by the start date of online application for each date, and who have completed the payment of the application fee (screening fee) and submitted the application documents, as well as separately submitted the documents required to obtain a "short-term commercial or other" visa, the documents issued by the University will be sent to them.

    Note 1

    Before proceeding, please be sure to confirm with the Japanese embassy or consulate in your area whether you can obtain a short-stay visa with the "Examination Permit" or a "short-term business" visa with the "Documents Issued by the University".

    Note 2

    If you are unable to obtain a visa with an "Examination Permit", the University can only provide Support for Obtaining a "Temporary Business Visa".
    We do not provide any assistance in obtaining other types of visas.

    Note 3

    The University does not guarantee that you will be granted a "short-term business visa".

  • Support for students coming to Japan with a "student visa" at the time of enrollment Enrolled students who wish to apply for a "Certificate of Eligibility" on behalf of the university, which is necessary to obtain a student visa, can apply for it at the university.

    Spring Semester (April) Enrollment

    For those taking the July exam, October exam, and December exams.

    We will send you materials regarding the application for the "Certificate of Eligibility" on your behalf along with the CERTIFICATE OF ACCEPTANCE.

    For those taking the February exam months applications.

    Due to the short period of time required for Entrance Exam Date, we will send materials regarding the application for the issuance of the "Certificate of Eligibility" on behalf of the applicant by e-mail prior to the Exam Date.

    Fall Enrollment (September)

    For those taking the June Examination Months and February exam applications.

    We will send you materials regarding the application for the "Certificate of Eligibility" on your behalf along with the CERTIFICATE OF ACCEPTANCE.

    For those taking the July exam examinations months.

    Due to the short period of time required for Entrance Exam Date, we will send materials regarding the application for the issuance of the "Certificate of Eligibility" on behalf of the applicant by e-mail prior to the Exam Date.

    Note 1

    In principle, this support is provided to residents outside Japan, and no application will be made on behalf of residents within Japan. If you are a resident of Japan and wish to apply for a "Certificate of Eligibility on behalf of the applicant" due to reasons such as losing your status as an Enrolled Student before entering the Graduate School, please follow the online application screen and contact us.

    Note 2

    The Immigration Bureau will not guarantee the issuance of a "Certificate of Eligibility".
